As a fan of pretty much everything superhero-ish, I looked forward to the premiere of the new CW series The Tomorrow People. And it didn’t disappoint me. Yes, it is not the best season premiere of this season, but by far not the worst either.
In CW series you often see a lot of young pretty looking people, which was the case in The Tomorrow People too. That is one of the reasons why the acting of the CW shows often isn’t from the highest quality. And yes, the acting wasn't the strongest point of The Tomorrow People. But it was just the pilot and there is plenty of room for improvement, especially with the lead actor Robbie Amell, the brother of Arrow’s Stephen Amell. Stephen didn’t start out as the strongest actor either, but he is growing in his performance and is taking his show to one of the best series on TV. So there is definitely hope for his little brother too.
The plot line of the Pilot episode sounded familiar, as The Tomorrow People is a remake from a British show. But it was nonetheless very interesting and I can’t wait where the writers will take the show to in the coming episodes. One thing was pretty questionable. That is that Stephen Jameson didn’t know he had any powers and a few hours later he suddenly was able to teleport pretty easily out of a room where his powers weren’t supposed to work for whatever reason. He seemed to have his new powers under reasonable control quite fast. The struggle to learn their new powers, is for me normally one of the things I find more interesting in super powered people.
The best moment of the episode was that Jameson by accident teleported himself in his sleep in the bed of his neighbors house.
Verdict: Although there are plenty things to improve, the pilot looked very promising. Thumbs up!
